Heroes of Belarus. Pavel Mariyev. Legend of BELAZ
On the last Sunday of September, Belarus celebrated Machine Builders Day. The current issue of The MT project is dedicated to Pavel Mariyev — the Hero of Belarus, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Honoured Worker of Industry, and recipient of the state prize in science and technology. This remarkable person once breathed new life into Belarus’ automotive giant BELAZ, whose dump trucks have become a symbol of independent Belarus.Pavel Mariyev is an engineer, director, scientist — Doctor of Technical Sciences, the author and co-author of 30 research papers, and the holder of 13 patents and copyright certificates in Belarus.
Belaz: The Pride of Belarus
First, we started touring huge engines, other equipment, and the assembly line. Then we were led to a place where giant mining dump trucks – some largest in the world – and excavators were parked.
I was excited to see the world’s largest dump trucks. What was most striking and impressive was a 450-ton dump truck. At least for me, it was unbelievable to see that this truck can carry about half a million tons in one go. It was marked Belaz 75710. Reportedly, two more 75710 models are currently under construction.
It is as long as two double-decker buses parked end-to-end and weighs more than a fully loaded Airbus A380 passenger plane.
Belaz is Committed to being at The Forefront of Introducing The Latest Quality Tools
The quality of manufactured products of OJSC BELAZ – the management company of the holding company BELAZ-HOLDING (hereinafter referred to as OJSC BELAZ) is of great importance. The enterprise has always strived to be at the forefront in the implementation of the latest quality tools.
OJSC BELAZ was one of the first enterprises in the mechanical engineering industry of the Republic of Belarus to implement a Quality Management System (QMS), certifying it in the National Conformity Assessment System and in the German DAKKS system for compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001 in 2000.
Today, planning the required quality and achieving it is the most important direction of the enterprise policy. Moreover, more and more attention is paid to such categories as the quality of technology, management, ecology, and other aspects of activity. Following in the mainstream of this movement, OJSC BELAZ is modernizing production using modern technologies, high-performance equipment, the latest control and measuring instruments and measuring systems.
The World’s Largest Dump Truck BelAZ 75710 uses Advanced High-Strength Steel
The BelAZ 75710 is the world’s largest dump truck, with a load capacity of up to 450 tons and is made of advanced high-strength steel.
This massive 360-ton truck costs $6 million each, has six times the power of a Formula 1 car and is over 20 meters long. The BelAZ 75710 is equipped with two 16-cylinder four-stroke diesel engines, each producing 2,300 horsepower, which provide power to four electric motors for a maximum speed of 64 km/h.
Carrying large amounts of cargo requires a lot of fuel, and the 75710’s diesel consumption is estimated at 1,300 liters per 100 kilometers, but when not loaded, only one engine is used to save fuel.
Resource efficiency is a core design principle of the world’s largest dump truck.
Let’s Walk Into a Special Company——BELAZ
OJSC “BELAZ” – Management Company of Holding “BELAZ-HOLDING” (OJSC “BELAZ”) is a major world manufacturer of mining dump trucks of heavy-duty and super-size load capacity, as well as the other heavy vehicles, being used in mining and construction branches of industry.
All achieved by OJSC “BELAZ” within 60-year old history is the result of implementation of the enterprise main policy: the fullest satisfaction of the customer’s needs, with which OJSC “BELAZ” has long-term effective cooperation.
BelAZ to Ship Four More Haul Trucks to Russian Gold Mining Company
The Belarusian company has already shipped three haul trucks BelAZ-7555B to PAO Susumanzoloto this year. BelAZ intends to ship another four trucks BelAZ-7555N with the carrying capacity of 55 tonnes within the next few months.
BelAZ’s 55-tonne trucks are used to renew the vehicle fleet of Susumanzoloto’s daughter enterprise OOO Sever in Russia’s Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
Susumanzoloto Director General Aleksandr Chugunov noted that the new trucks demonstrate good performance in extremely low air temperatures. OOO Sever operates close to the northern hemisphere’s pole of cold. Susumanzoloto is convinced that the new trucks of the BelAZ-7555 series will increase labor productivity and reduce the cost of gold mining.
